Grand Dam Dorky was a World Show qualifier in 1981 in five events: barrels, poles, heading, heeling, and calf roping. Unfortunately she broke her leg before she was able to make the November trip to Oklahoma. She lacked ten points of being a Superior Team Roping Horse when fate altered her course and she became a full-time broodmare. Link and Debbie Thompson were sorry when Dorky got hurt because it meant they had to haul more horses to compete in rodeos, jackpots, and horse shows just to do the work that Dorky was not only able to do but do well enough to put them in the money and earn points. She earned a total of 46 AQHA points during her show career. Dorky was not the only daughter of Tonto Bar Ted (AQHA Champion) that we hauled. Vee Elle (dam of Jack Tonto) earned her ROM in roping events and was hauled to high school rodeos. Darst earned her ROM in just five shows, while her full-sister Tis No More was busy producing horses that frequently topped our annual production sales. There were other Tonto Bar Ted daughters in the broodmare band as well. Dorky’s half-brother, Scrapie, was the 1981 High Point Stallion in the Center of the Nation. |

Her sire, Tonto Bar Ted 257098, ran AAA on the track, earned his ROM in Team Roping, and racked up 23 halter points with 8 Grand Championships and 3 Reserve Championships to his credit. His sire, Tonto Bars Hank, was immortalized in Legends 4—A Western Horseman Book. What attracted Bob to this pedigree was Hank H as he claims never to have ridden a bad Hank H horse. Tonto Bar Ted’s dam, Frog’s Annette by Frog W also goes back to Mae West (P56) just like Miss Pollyanna’s pedigree does. Here’s another case in point as to how important the maternal line is. This photo of Tonto Bar Ted was one that appeared in our 1979 sale catalog and is the only photo we have left of the horse that left a big hoof print in our program. Dorky produced four stallions for us: Tonto Bar Gabby, Stage Bar Ted, Feature Frosty, and Feature Hank. Hank was the last baby she raised for us. Shortly after we weaned him, Dorky died. Her health had been failing and the old broken leg had taken it’s toll on her—she finished the last job we gave her with the same heart that made her such a competitor. |
